how to receive email upon motion detection
« on: September 30, 2012, 12:51:59 AM »

As a novice I just set up my camera to view both on network and remotely (it took a few steps, but successful).  Great help on the forum.  Next step is to get the email pic to send out once motion is detected.  I have the email addresses inputted on the settings, but nothing seems to be happening.  There's got to be a simple solution, and suggestions?

OK, I'm a dummy.  I have seen the instructions on pp 42 & 43, but I have basic questions.

1  Sender email.  Where do I get this?  Do I use one of my existing email accounts?  Do I need to create an account for the IP Cam?

2.  Trying my existing email account, I keep getting a fail message.  "Cannot connect to the servers".

Any advice?

There are 3 places you need to fill in..

Sender email is your email address you use. I use myname@gmail.com
Receiver 1 is the same email .. myname@gmail.com
smpt server is:    smpt.gmail.com     .. if you re using gmail

SMTP Port 465  < this is gmail.. another mail client may be different. You could find out with Googling that email client. ( Not your camers port )
Transport Layer Security Protocol is TLS < GMAIL AGAIN

Need Authentication CHECK THIS BOX

SMTP User THIS IS THE USER NAME U USE TO LOG IN TO YOUR MAIL BOX ( NOT YOUR CAMERA)
SMTP password. THIS IS THE PASSWORD U USE TO LOG IN TO YOUR MAIL BOX ( NOT YOUR CAMERA)
CLICK TEST.. YOU SHOULD GET A PAGE BACK SAYING SUCCEED.. OR FAIL. IF FAIL AND ITS  NOT GMAIL. YOU NEED THAT EMAIL YOU ARE USING SMTP PORT NUMBER

Thanks Richy.

X10 support sent me an article with all that info.

I have followed the instructions to the letter numerous times with several different email accounts I have using all the port numbers and I still get the failure message.

"Test  ...  Failed
Can not connect to the server"

I am out of ideas.  Can anyone help on this?

Is it possible to actually talk to an X10 support person?

Which email are you using? gmail... hotmail... ?

This is the most important
Did you find out the smtp for that emal client?

Did you find out the smtp port for that email client?

Are you using your email address user name for smtp user?
Are you using your email password for smtp password.

If you can take a screen shot of your mail set up .. it would help.

I am out of ideas.  Can anyone help on this?

Thanks for the reply Richy.

Yes to all questions.  I don't know how to take a screen shot.

Currently using a gmail account.

***********@gmail.com    is listed in both sender and receiver blocks

SMTP SERVER:  smtp.gmail.com

SMTP Port:        465

Transport Layer Security Protocol:   TLS

Need Authentication:   Checked

SMTP User:   ***********@gmail.com

SMTP Password:   (my gmail pw)

Report Internet IP by Mail:  checked

I have tried it with STARTTLS, with NONE, and each with different ports, 25, 587.  AND I have tried other email accounts I have with ATT.NET and Bellsouth.net using the appropriate SMTP server and settings for each and then trying every variation I can think of.

No luck.

That's why I got down to thinking maybe there is a setting on the router I need to change, but I can't access that from here.

Any and all ideas are solicited.

Last chance.

In your router ( if you need help.. go to portforwarding.com they basically have all types of routers listed and how-to) under the single portforwarding tab.. < did you port forward.

also

Add your camera url to IE .. go to
internet options>security>trusted sites>click sites>add the camera url
