PAT01 Not Dimming Lamp Module
« on: March 14, 2015, 02:29:42 PM »

Sorry if this question has been asked/answered before but I honestly could not find it. I have a Radio Shack Lamp Module Model #61-2682B, Date code 07A99. The problem I am having is the lamp module turns on/off and dims properly when using either AHP or my HR12A remote going through a CM15A interface. But when I disable the CM15A interface (unplug it) and connect my PAT01 interface the lamp module turns on and off but does not dim when I use my HR12A remote. Just wondering if this is normal or if anybody else has experienced this same thing. Could it be an incompatibly with this particular Radio Shack lamp module? Has anyone used a PAT01 interface with LM456 lamp module and have them dim properly with a HR12A remote. Thanks in advance.

Not familiar with that Radio Shack part Number.
Is it new enough to have Soft Start, where it ramps On and Off in a few seconds or instantly turns On and Off?
I have the X10 version of the PAT01. The RR501.
I have used it with both soft start LM465s and the older ones before Soft Start. Along with a HR12A Palm Pad. They seem to function correctly.
I some newer designed RR501s and will test some LM456s with a HR12A. To see if anything is different from my older RR501 that is in service now.

Was the PAT01 in the same location as the CM15A you disconnected, when you did the tests?
Can you describe what is not happening? Like the module goes On and Off but will not dim or brighten at all or dimming is not what expected.
I tried a newer RR501 and with my HR12A. Both Soft Start and older LM465s seem to work as expected.

Thanks Brian for the quick response:
The module does not have the Soft Start feature it turns instantly On and Off.
Yes the PAT01 and CM15A were in the same receptacle.
The module turns On/Off and it will Dim/Brighten using the CM15A Interface - (Using either AHP or HR12A remote).
The module turns On/Off ONLY when using the PAT01 Transceiver - (Using HR12A remote).
I am just wanting to make sure the PAT01 will dim & brighten LM465 modules.
Thanks Again.

You are welcome.

Strange.
If you use the PAT01 to turn the 61-2682B On or Off to set its address. With the HR12A. Then use the bright or dim button on the HR12A. It does not get brighter or dimmer?
I did notice with my RR501 and the HR12A. The dimming while holding the dim button was in very small steps. I wounder if it is the Bright/Dim function versus the Micro Dim/Bright function. Holding the dim or bright button may start.

I did some tests again.
With a XPPF isolating my test bed from the house wiring. To eliminate any external influences.

With an old LM465, older revision Soft Start LM465 {didn't flash correctly with Security Console alarms} and later revision Soft Start LM465.
With a RR501  Date Code 02F23 all three dimmed and brightened in steps if the HR12A Dim or Brighten buttons where held.
With a RR501  Date Code 10G28 all three dimmed and brightened smoothly if the Hr12A Dim or Brighten buttons where held.
So your PAT01 maybe similar. How it acts may depend on its firmware handling a continuous RF Bright or Dim command.

The microdims are not a function of the RF signal but in how the PLC Dims are sent. I would expect the PATO1 to respond to the RF from the HA12A in the same manner that the CM15A responds. I don't recall that I ever explicitly tested either the RR501 or TM751 regarding dim/bright but I've never noticed anything out of the ordinary in normal operation and I currently use a TM751 on one phase with an RR501 on the other controlling all with HR12A & KR19A.

I suspect this has something to do with how the PAT01 interprets the RF signal. The OP might try replacing it with a TM751.

I should add that all of the RF remotes I've tested send a minimum of 5-6 contiguous RF dim/bright signals even with a rapid press/release of a button. The SH624 security remote can send single RF codes. Transceivers will not hear any RF codes while they are busy sending PLC so there is no exact correlation between the number of RF codes and PLC dim/bright.

I came to the party late. Do you have any other Lamp Modules or Wall Switch modules that you can test with the PAT01/HR12?

I did suspect how the RF signals where being handled. After seeing an old RR501 and recent RR501 dim the same modules differently.
I didn't try a CM15A to see how it dims with a HR12A.
