DS7000 Security System
« on: July 18, 2004, 05:44:31 PM »

Does anyone know of a company that makes
wireless (battery operated) smoke detectors
that will turn in an alarm on a wireless X10
Security Panel? If I can't find one I am
going to get inventive and come up with a
solution.

Can't say I've seen a wireless smoke
detector that would be compatiable for the
DS7000 system, there are other panels that
have smoke alarm capabilities.  It is
possible to connect a transmitter to a
standard smoke alarm.  You have to find the
right wire leads to connect too.

Hi there.  That's a really good question
Travis.  I'd be interested in what you
find.  I have another question for you...
I've moved and now have 29 windows and 6
exterior doors to cover.  X10's response to
my question about how to cover them, was to
buy a second DS7000 system and split the
house in two.  That's not going to be easy,
so I thought I'd ask you two and see what
you think?  Any ideas?  Thanks.

That could work, but its not neccessary to
have sensors no all windows and door and
don't forget you can connect up to three
door window contact per transmitter, so you
can cover a whole bay window with one
transmitter.  You can also purchase
additional motion sensors to cover a large
area of windows, just don't point them
towards the window, place it in a corner
where the windows are.  I have used two
systems before, but not to cover two areas
just incase one failed i had a backup.  But
not with x10 system, I use my other
companies product.  Good luck.

Door/Window Sensors

Multiple contacts for one transmitter?  this
sounds interesting.  Anyone know where this
is documented?  I don't see it on the DS10a
instructions.  Where can the extra contacts
be purchased?  Also, the contacts on mine
are very forgiving - they can be about a
full inch away from each other and mounting
on a steel door causes no problems.
Appearently they they do not use
magnet/reedswitch technology?  Perhaps
inductance - anyone know?  Also, what is the
freq being used, and is it AM?

I am interested in knowing where you can
purchase more contacts so that you can
connect them to one transmitter as well.
Could you please post a link or something? Thanks

First of all before you got out to buy
contacts there is two differnt kinds.
Normally open contact which means that the
contact are open and do not conduct any
signal across (ex. light switch) or the
normally closed cicuit which senses troube
when the contact come apart or contact wire
getting cut. <---most realiable and
secure.  if the sensor is open you can
connect them in parallel , meaning the two
wires can be joined with other sensors, if
its a closed circuit they should be wired
as series like cheap christmas light, when
one light is missing they all go out.  <---
example.  so if one sensor trips the alarm
is sounded.  I am sure the x10 system is a
closed circuit system,  Call x10 to make
sure.  You can get addition sensors at
www.smarthome.com www.homecontrols.com or
local radioshack is they still sell them.
I am writing this late at night, someone
please correct me if I am wrong in the
wiring.  Also don't use to much wire to
extend the contacts.  too much wire can act
as an antennae and product false alarms.
Good luck
