cellphone notification, dock-n-talk
« on: November 29, 2005, 06:30:12 PM »

I came across "dock-n-talk" device surfing
the internet.  It allows a telephone hook-
up to any typical cellphone and uses the
wireless cellphone system to make a call
via the regular telephone.

Has anyone tried to hook x10 security or
radio shack console to this "dock-n-talk"
device to relay message in case of security
activation?  This would use a cellphone
wireless system instead of a home telephone
line to call; an intruder could normally
cut a home telephone line to foil security
system, including brink/adt.

I've read the manufacturer's website and
various user reviews...looks good! Will put
the cellular phone off-hook so it should
work fine with the _DS7000.  There's another
competitor as well...here's a website for
both http://www.coolproductz.com/.

Here's another website
http://www.eagleid.com/socket/) that's
offering the Cellsocket for only $55.00.  In
the explanation, it notes that GSM calls by
alarm systems, etc. are fine and CDMA
sometimes have problems with the DTMF tones
getting through but the _DS7000 does not
send DTMF tones after the initial call
(unlike a "commercial" alarm system which
sends out status and other coded info via
DTMF tones after the connection is made.)
This same person offers a website for the
Dock n Talk, as well
(http://www.eagleid.com/socket/).  Most
importantly....they offer tech support for
both these units and appear to have some
experience!

I don't remember the website but if you
put "dock-n-talk" in search yahoo, you'll
see many websites selling it.

If you purchase it and try it, please give
a quick note in this forum as to if it
works well.  Thanks.

Is this dock-n-talk vulnerable to the intruder
picking up the phone and messing up the
connection to the dock-n-talk?

How about if one rigged up a robotic jig that
would push the dial button on a cell phone?
The jig is linked to an X10 power switch.  So
when the power switch was turned on the
robotic rig would push the button mechanically.

I have mine set up on the Xlink BT. It uses bluetooth to connect to the cell phone and a phone cord from the dialer to the Xlink. For the price of an additional phone line on the cell plan, I have cellular dialing of my alarm and it dials my cell phone when the alarm activates.
It does not use the home phones unless you hook it up that way. (you need to isolate the home wiring from the telephone company wires)

I recently bought the XLink BT.  I'm trying to get this to work with my alarm system, but testing the device with Alarm Relay hasn't been successful.  Can you explain how did you get it to work with your alarm system?  Did you change the configuration Xlink BT to make it work?

Thanks for any help!

I set up the dialer, plugged it into the XLink. I set up the dialer to dial the same number in all dialing spots. Linked the Xlink BT and my cell phone by bluetooth. When I activated the alarm, it takes about 1 minute to dial out but it works.
