wireless streamed media to tv is in black and white only
« on: September 02, 2009, 07:40:24 AM »

Ive been trying to figure this out. Im guessing that its an issue in the video settings for the video card but all seems ok there. I have a s\video cable + white and red rca's from the pc to the sender and I use the 3 rca's going into the tv. Ive tried using the s\video to the tv also but that for some reason does not produce a picture.

S-Video signals are broken down and seperated by color and brightness if I remember correctly. I would guess you might need to use an adapter and convert your output signal to a single RCA composite Video.

I have an 's\video to rca 'adapter plugged into the computer s\ video port on the nvidia video card and the yellow rca cable (to the sender) is plugged into that, if thats what you mean. I would have to guess that this is a common problem except I think deep down Im the only one right now. I'll work on it

Unless your S to Composite RCA jack. Has electronics in it to mix the signals. I would say only the B&W part of the S videos output is being sent out the RCA Connector.

I'll  bring the adapter to  radio shack to get their input on this. Very possible that im using an incorrect  adapter with  no electronics to mix as you suggest.

Do you have the Radio Shack part number handy?
Maybe I can give it a look on their web site.

I found some data on S video to RCA Composite adapters.
Do you know if your video card has four or seven  pins in the S jack?
I also didn't see any that had active parts in them just passive. So my asking about if yours mixed the signals it would just be passive.

The part number on the s vid to rca is HAU6021095. it dosen't say Tandy or Radio Shack on it and I dont know where I got it. HAU must be the clue. Its got two male ends. a better looking one that I have has a male rca and female s end I. needed both male ends.

If I remember in one of your other threads. You have a Nvidia 7600GT Video Card. When you turned on the S Video Output was there a choice of Component or Composite Video Output. Composite is what is needed.
Also my Nvidia 9600GT does not show any S video connections if the S jack is not connected. It is also possible during detection of the S connected device it was misread.

http://www.svideo-rca.com/
Read the first bullet item.

I have used the passive couplers but appearently this may yield only B & W.

I believe the video card also senses what video jacks are in use.
I know Nvidia says any two of my three video jacks [2 DVI and 1 S] can be active at any one time and if a TV is on the S jack. Some do not get detected correctly. Guess the adapter is one more layer to conquer.

Note: In a earlier post I said if you had a choice of component or composite. This may not be a choice as I may have not understood the proper protocols.

I may look to upgrade my card to one that has more options . I say this because to me its important to stay up to date with the video card . the sender reciever is a great idea but Im sending to a regular tv and the resolution isnt good enough for reading anything shown in small ( pc desktop)  print . I'll send this stuff back for now . im a x10 fan regardless. the info you guys provide is worth alot OI apprecieate it.

I agree. Sending a PC Video Screen to a TV would be blurry or hard to read.

I've sent from the PC to TV. I've used both the VGA sender (connects to the VGA plug of a PC) as well as the S-video through a VK82A.

Nether were suitable for "reading" anything [from a PC] on a TV screen (even with the settings on a low 800X600 on a HD TV). Video however is suitable... pretty much old broadcast TV quality. I have a YouTube Video... of a YouTube Video... shown wirelessly transmitted to my TV. I was considering (still am) setting up to watch Internet TV... on my TV.
