Plug-ins: What do you want ActiveHome to do next?
« on: February 15, 2006, 06:31:46 PM »

We want to make a plug-in for you -- what do
you want it to do?

ActiveHome users are full of great ideas, and
we'd like to hear some from you! We want our
next plug-in to make your life easier and
make ActiveHome do the thing you've always
wanted it to.

So, what plug-ins would you like to see?

Make iWitness work correctly before you try
to do anymore.  I purchased it when it first
came out and still can't get some parts to
work.  Nor can many other people as you can
see from the forums!  No one even answers
the questions!

Not so much a plugin, but what about the
following features:
1. Automatic backups of the ENTIRE
configuration (can be set on a schedule, if
desired)
2. Automatic "dumping" of the Activity
Monitor, also should be able to be
scheduled. I'd like to have it automatically
dump the activity log once a day/week/month
to a file, so I can keep them as long as I
want. (of course, the Activity Monitor has
to WORK, for this to be at all useful)
3. The ability to run a macro when the
interface is plugged in (or when power to
the home is restored after a blackout). The
interface has circuityry to determine when
it is NOT plugged in (and running down the
48 hours on the battery), why can't we
trigger an even when the power is restored?
4. Redesign the AHP interface, so it
conforms to the Microsoft Winodws STANDARDS.
Make the hotkeys that work in the rest of
Windows also work in AHP.

Make MyHouse service to be accessible any
time with port 80 in the 2 ways (not port
8001)
Make Smart Macro to run without any bugs
(timers problems, flags problems)

Make X-10 security systems to be integrated
in the AHP system.

How about voice activation.  I know that
there is a program out there that works but
I would like to see a official version that
works with myhouse online. If not that then
I would like to see a sdk for myhouse
online.  If there was access to the myhouse
online activex control, specifically how to
authenticate with the server and pass
commands from a visual basics program, we
could make our own voice control web
program.  That would be sweet.

How about a pluging for  some of the other
prodical z-wave, insteon.

I second the security interface idea
there are some others but they have already
been made with the limited SDK (hey how
about fixing it too)

I am sure everyone would like a plug-in
that fixes all the outstanding issues with
activehome and the existing plug-in
modules.  I suggest that you set up a
computer with all your software modules and
try all your features and fix the ones that
do not work.

This is not a plug-in.

How about "smart upgrades" that would look at
a user's AHP installation before applying
files. That way files could be taylored for
users, based on what they have in their AHP
systems.

I vote for getting what you have  now working
reliably.
- How about software that validates the ahx file.

Sorry if the "plug-in" thread has digressed
into a bug/wish list, but what the hell.

How bout:

#1)
Get rid of the annoying pop-under add that I
must deal with every time I come to this
site.  It's one thing to annoy the general
public, it's another to annoy your existing
customers trying read your support forums.

#2)
Optiomize the fourm web page.  it's a pain to
have to scroll down to the second browser
page to see what I want. Collapse the forum
list into a single or pull-down list?

#3
MyHouse Online

I would never trust my house security with a
dependency on a centralized MyHouse server.
Even the notion of allowing X10
ActiveX/ActiveUpdate permissions is scary enough.

Upgrade MyHouse to support point-to-point
communications w/o any X10 or MyHouse server
requirements.  Isn't it after all just a Java
applicatons?  Does X10 have long-term
customer lock-in, tracking, pattern usage
goals or activity logs?

#4)
X10 Web Site Crashes Firefox Browsers
The first time I start Firefox on multiple
PCs both at work and home and access the
forums web site it crashes up-to-date firefox
browsers with a bad Java memory access error.
A restart and second access works ok.

#5
Small Forum Message Window
And what with this tiny forum message window?
It's hard to edit and even post messages.  At
least make it 80x20 lines or larger.

#6
Forum Column Width?
Jees, how bout 80 columns wide?

I'm done today :-)

X10 Pro,

I would like it if AHP could interface with
my home weather station. The could have
several useful applications. 1> It could
use the inside / outside temperature to
start stop fans, ac, sprinkler systems. 2>
It could be used to turn off sprinkler
systems on very windy days. 3> It could
turn on the dehumidifier on very humid days.

I would like a voice module to SPEAK either
from a .wav file or perhaps from words
typed into a box within AHP. (I know there
are separate programs for this, but I would
like a simple built-in module.) The feature
could be used, for example, to announce an
action that will/is taking place: someone
at the front door, "Good Night" lighting,
and appliances being turned on/off,
movements detected in parts of the home
(when there shouldn't be), or just to
say "Good Morning" as a wake-up call. The
list goes on and external speakers around
the house could deliver the message
anywhere you like. I think giving AHP a
voice would expand its usefulness -- and
fun -- enormously with creative thinking.

IMO, I think that X10 should concentrate on
making the existing product work properly.
But I guess that they already have our money
so the only changes will be to add more
features to attract more customers (suckers)

Gosh, I'd just like it to work properly.
You know, like, to work on-screen commands
and my macros properly.  Since I first
received my CM15A in the fall of `04, I've
downloaded every upgrade, read the forums in
hopes of finding a solution, but to no
avail.  X10 Customer Service has been of
little help. I gave up on AHP last year,
switched to the Smarthome product and
software, with nearly flawless performance.
But, AHP is easier to program, easier to
use, but it just doesn't work.  I'm not a
novice at this, I first used the CM-11A in
1998, used it until 2004.

Just like to add another vote for security
product integration as well as voice input
and output.Instead of relying solely on
motion sensors door/window contacts would
be great.
