Title: AirpadXL latest CyanogenMod9 and 10 with install instructions.
Post by: jcoleman2164 on July 28, 2012, 08:37:12 PM
This uses Christian Troys excellent CyanogenMod build found here http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/33373-rom-cm9-nightlies/

First you need clockwork recovery. Both of my previous images have been update with the latest build for our tablets.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/CM008-0331-BT-CWR.img
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/CM008-AirpadXL-Momo15.ICS.Bluetooth%200617.img
Burn either of these with Livesuite

Second download Christian Troys CyanogenMod build cm9_nightly_20120721.zip from http://www.androidfilehost.com/main/Allwinner_A10_Developers/christiantroy/roms/
Download the Google Apps http://allwinner-cm9.googlecode.com/files/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip or from here if you want the Facelock app http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
Download my airpad xl compatibility file https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/AirpadXL_compatibility_1.2.0.zip
Copy all 3 to an sd card

Third shutdown the tablet and boot to cwm by holding vol- while pressing the power button for 3 seconds than release power and vol-.
Select install zip from sd card than choose zip from sdcard by pressing the power button.
Install cm9_nightly_20120721.zip then gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip then AirpadXL_compatibility_1.2.0.zip
Go Back and reboot.

If you get an error about the sd card being corrupt install https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/format-internal-memory.zip from CWM to fix it.

I have added some AirpadXL branding to the compatibility file, if anyone wants one without it I can upload one.
The compatibility file should work with his AOKP build found here http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/34824-rom-aokp/ it has some extra option but I thought CM9 ran smoother.

What does all of this add?
Above what your previous  0331 bt build did.

By the way I get my pad to pair with headsets/stereo but no sound out stereo just out of tablet.

Bluetooth update on XL:

I bought a new A2DP compatible stereo headphones and they do not work either. When I pair to modified 0331 build I still am not getting prompted for a passkey and when I try to use headphones I get invalid passkey error and no audio.

Where am I going wrong or do I need to install the CyanogenMod before it will work?

Otherwise, this is the best build ever and puts Ployer to shame.

Thanks again for your dedicated work.

On mine I set the default pass key on the Pioneer Receiver to 0000 and it pairs just fine.

My pioneer says X10 Bluetooth and my X10 Says Pioneer ....

It's just that the sound still comes out the X10 speaker not the Pioneer Receiver

PS - the pioneer receiver is designed to work like bluetooth stereo headsets only with MUCH bigger speakers!

Is it possible to update the Bluetooth in the ICS to included A2DP support?

If your Bluetooth devices are going to work with this tablet it is going to take installing cm9.  It is the latest version of ICS and it looks like all of the Bluetooth profiles are supported.  I have tried to get them to work with the other builds but have been unsuccessful.

From the website it adds:
* Bluetooth USB dongle support (btusb and ath3k)
* USB GPS support (cp210x and pl2303)
* Xbox 360 gamepad support (xpad)
* PS3 USB gamepad support (hid-sony)
* Generic / chinese (Pantherlord / GreenAsia) gamepads support (hid-pl and hid-gaff)
* OpenVPN support (tun)
* NTFS and ExFat support
* Veno congestion control algorithm
* USB audio support

Also it adds overclocking and different CPU governors, and just looking through the setting I see airplane mode, portable hotspot, WI-fi direct, themes, oh and my favorite touching the clock area twice brings up a brightness slider. Some of this may have been available before but I didn't notice it.

I just saw that there is a post for CM10 based on jellybean but without hw accelerated video playback.  I will give it a try and report back.

I have update the 0331 image https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/CM008-0331-BT-CWR.img bluetooth may work better but I don't have anything to test it with.

I updated both images https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/CM008-AirpadXL-Momo15.ICS.Bluetooth%200617.img and 0331 to up the /system partition to 350MB so that Christian Troys Jellybean port of CyanogenMod 10 can be installed.  http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/37048-rom-cyanogenmod-10-preview/

Web browsing from this rom is much faster.

Install it much the same as cm9 just make sure to use livesuite to flash one on these images first.

From the site
* Upload zips to MicroSD or internal memory.
* Boot into CWM keeping pressed VOL- (MENU) and POWER for 3 secs, than release POWER and after another sec release VOL- (or use Novo7 tools if it doesn't work for your device)
* Select "wipe data/factory reset"
* Select "install zip from sdcard" -> "choose zip from sdcard" (or "choose zip from internal sdcard" if your files are into internal memory) and flash, in this order, rom / gapps / compatibility zip
* Now go back, and select "Reboot system now"

Compatibility zip AirpadXL branded https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/AirpadXL_JB_compatibility_1.2.0.zip
Compatibility zip generic https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/Momo15_JB_compatibility_1.2.0.zip

Also from the site

Known Bugs
* HW accelerated video playback (cedar's demuxer is incompatible with JB) so video playback is only in SW mode. Youtube works fine, just don't use HD videos and everything will play. MX Player in "Fast S/W" mode will play almost everything up to 720p
* If you have issues with Tablet -> PC connection use an app to transfer files via WiFi, like "Airdroid". You can flash this zip as workaround. To mount memories on PC open terminal emulator and type "su", "mount-storage". When you have finished you can type "umount-storage". If you wanna you can create a shortcut with GScript app.

Not to sound like a complete moron.... but I am confused.  You have a couple of images here with a couple more zips.  What do I install and in what order to get ics with full blutooth?
Do I still need to patch key files?
Please and thanks for the help.

Jimdi,

I installed the cm10 and had a few issues so I got the CM9 stuff at the top of the page and that is running pretty good. first use livesuit to install the system image. I used the CM008-0331-BT-CWR.img with the 350MB /system image.

so to answer your question.

download the files mentioned in the CM9 stuff at top of page and put all but the .img on sdcard.

install the image as normal with livesuit on PC.
****IMPORTANT****
reboot and let tablet come up as normal.. it needs to build all the internal stuff it uses before u install CM9.

reboot and follow the rest of the instruction in either post CM9 or CM10 to use CWR.

CM10 gave me launcher issues and one of the first apps i installed could not run (dropbox) so i went to CM9 and running it now.

Hairface...as always thanks for the clear instructions....

If I follow the link there is a bunch of CM9 zip files - do I take the latest?
So I do livesuite for the BT 0331 img file - then the boot/power thing for the zip files...

Why do I need the google file - isn't google in 0331?

Still a little confusing - probably because I don't understand the purpose of CM9 or CM10.

What about the key files?

I am ready to update my firmware. Just one question:
What is the difference between these two latest updated versions

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/CM008-0331-BT-CWR.img and
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/CM008-AirpadXL-Momo15.ICS.Bluetooth%200617.img ?

Thank you.

Sorry I have been working on something instead of watching this thread.

All of my images have the proper keylayouts already.
Of the two the 0331 image probably has the best bluetooth support. The AirpadXL-Momo15 image has AirpadXL branding meaning wallpapers and such and a later kernal version. What does the later kernal get you? IDK

CM9 is just a modified version of ICS.  CM10 is a modified version of Jellybean but it is basically pre-beta and not recommended unless you just want to try it.
Jellybean requires 300MB+ for the /system partition and thats why I updated the images. 0331 may have better bluetooth support but the other is the same.
To install CM9 this way you still need one of the images flashed with livesuite because the include Clockwork Recovery that you will use to wipe and install cm9. Kinda like livesuite that runs on the tablet.

All of this may not matter though because of what I have been working on. I am uploading a working CM9 livesuite image. It has the best possible bluetooth support and AirpadXL branding and I have finally fixed the corrupt sd issue.
Here's the link https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/AirpadXL%20CyanogenMod9%20814.img

This version comes with the basic google apps system apps but I plan on making another that has apps I actually use. Anyone have any suggestions? Like the apps included in 0331?

Thanks... A simple img file would be much easier...do we still need to fix the volume keys?
0331 pkg apps were great... duplicate that. Maybe add a great mail and contacts app..   thanks again.
Title: Re: AirpadXL latest CyanogenMod9 and 10 with install instructions.

The volume keys are already fixed. As far as I can tell everything should be working. Though I haven't tried HDMI out, if anyone does please report back.

I would recommend once you have it installed go to settings>performance>processor>CPU governor and change it to fantasy then check "set on boot". This may use a little more battery but it feels much more responsive.

This image already include the regular email and contacts apps and the gmail app. Is there better options? I haven't used any of them much.

WOW!  If first impressions matter- WOW this kicks A$$!

Applications I would like to see on boot -
K-9 Mail - better features
Google Music - so I can get my music.
I see you have Amazon Store - what about Kindle.
and I personally like ES file manager because of the app backup feature - I could easily restore my apps.

Thanks again!

Ok I have been playing for a while - Blue Tooth music works- -
(like bluetooth headsets or stereo)

BUT seems to go about 3 songs and disconnects.

Pad doesn't remember bluetooth after re-boot like CM008-331 -BT  did.

You have to fiddle around with the bluetooth dongle to get bluetooth back after boot.

I see there are "profiles" even turning bluetooth on in the profile doesn't keep it there after boot.

Could you post a logcat.txt from when it quits?
Title: Re: AirpadXL latest CyanogenMod9 and 10 with install instructions.
Post by: Jimdi on August 16, 2012, 05:59:13 PM
Be glad to - tell me how.

It never "remembers" the generic bluetooth on re-boot. It varies on how long it will play music through the blue tooth before it disconnects. 3 songs to almost an entire album.
Turned screen to "off in 2 minutes" and turned processor from Fantasy back to performance - seems to help a bit.

It almost seems like a power saving thing (the bluetooth dis-connect)

Why it doesn't remember at boot it beyond me - and then you have to do a
"song and dance" of dongle in out - bluetooth on / off a few times to get it to recognize it.

By the way after first install of the OS - it recognized the bluetooth dongle right away.
Problems started after it was on about 5-10 minutes.

let me know where to get the log file you want...

Thanks again.

After bluetooth messes up run the terminal emulator app and type "su" and click allow when superuser pops up then type "logcat > /sdcard/logfile.txt", it will start logging, unplug the bluetooth dongle and plug it back in then give it about 10 seconds then hold vol- and press c to stop logging. The file should be saved in the /sdcard folder.

I know they aren't Google apps, but I suggest including DirectoryBind and Link2SD.
I'm on your next to latest version of ICS and have a 32GB extsd card with a 12GB ext4 Partition for Link2SD (yea it's a bit big, only used about half and have over 550 Apps!) I use DirectoryBind to move all the internal cache and other true data directories to the internal SD card.
I also have several Medical Apps that insist upon putting backups to the internal SD card. DirectoryBind reroutes them to the extsd fat32 partition. The programs have no idea and it's a lot more user friendly that going in and manually tweaking things for the noob.
The FAT32 partition (20GB) on the extsd is used primarily for Backups (Titanium, CMW, Programs, etc.).

Cheers,
BuBu

This cm9 image is exactly the same as the cm9 zips and it already includes the changes the compatibility zips make.

I was thinking a little more general use on the apps to include. Most anyone that needs DirectoryBind and Link2SD will know how to get them. Thanks for the input though.

Still having problems with the Bluetooth.
Ok when I update superuser with this - it gives me an error that there is "write protection" - have never seen that before...
The Bluetooth dongle (generic tyupe) - does work fine for file transfers under the first 0331 BT -img...
With this CM 9 mod img it's really iffy if the bluetooth dongle is even recognized and if it will even turn on and work.
sometimes it lights up - but won't turn on.  I have tried different processor speeds to see if that matters - doesn't seem to.
I have re-flashed 2-3 times - and it doesn't get any better.  I have verified with my pc that the bluetooth dongle works fine.
Here is the logging file from after it wouldn't "turn on"

Bottom line it takes multiple inserts of the dongle and multilple attempts to get the dongle to turn on and work.  Some times you plug it in it lights up like is should but the software won't turn on.  Sometimes the dongle won't light up until you unplug it and plug it in 5-6 times.  If you do manage to get it to turn on it stay connected to the source for about 5 minutes at the most - and then you have to re-boot and start the dance all over again.

Anyhelp appreciated.

jim

Some more notes On stuff I have tried - I went back and flashed your V2 of 0331-BT the one posted in this topic earlier on... It seemed to have the same Bluetooth issues.
So I went back to your V1 of 0331 BT  (with harifaces Keyfile correction BATs) - and if you insert the dongle - it's not recognized until you reboot - remove it and insert it again.
Then is seems to work normal -- but it doesn't do music so I can't address the "disconnect issue."
It does however (unlike the other two imgs) remount and repower the bluetooth dongle after reboot. - - It's like on V1 of 0331 when the dongles there and on - it seems to stay on and working.

I do notice that the "0331" images have an option for "scan usb media" under memory - that is absent from the CM9 img - - if that matters.

hi, i'm a total tablet newbie. yet eager to  get my tablet going well.

i have a special question, I own a qware Tb-1210bl  pro3 10" which should be identical with the AirpadXL, a MOMO15 equivalent. That's why i consider this topic so vitally important, because nowhere i can find custom roms which are likely to fit my tablet.

i'm very interested in trying the rom, can i use the same flash methods as described in the OP, or should I proceed differently?

The only reason is that i want one of my several bluetooth dongles working. which rom should i choose?

thx vicenza

The easiest method would be to use this image https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/AirpadXL%20CyanogenMod9%20814.img with Livesuit.

Also if you try it could you post your results with the dongles? brands, if they work after replugging them, stuff like that. thanks

Sir Coleman, thanks a million! you're a livesaver!

my qware tb1210bl 10"  is an AirpadXL now! (for only it still looks like a qware...)

1. boots (this consoles me tremendously)
2. touchscreen works!
3. camera works, even better (stock rom had camera image mirrored L>R)
4. bt dongle is recognised. Type: icidu. no experience with connectivity yet, comes later. My sitecom CN520 dongle is not recognised.
edit: 5. my software keyboard has numerals when keys long pressed now!

When I know more, I let you guys know.

 B:(
JColeman, and anyone else that might know...

Where is the initlogo.rle located? I have one sitting in my root along with the init.rc (etc) but all I get is a blank screen.
Can I get the Airpad logo from someone?
Can I get the Boot Animation that was just the word Android flipping highlight?

I think I have reached the limit on the number of Apps...625!  :' I've started getting that Process System is not responding message.
Any way around that like tweaking the system to wait longer before it screams at you? I just hit wait and and it goes on without issue. It happens only when installing apps from app store and using Link2SD.

Something else....I noticed that after the boot animation I get the message box Android is Upgrading...Starting applications....
I think it is a non issue, but should I be seeing that? Also every full boot it prepares the SD cards, checking for errors?

OK even with the Turbo mode this c9 mod is really buggy and slow in actual use as compared to 0331 bt image..which seemed rock solid but no audio bt.   Since the audio but on c9 doesn't work reliably... I think I'll go back to 0331 bt image.

First DL this.https://dl.dropbox.com/u/87517233/LiveSuitPack_version_1.09_20111101.rar
Then This.https://dl.dropbox.com/u/87517233/AirpadXL%20CyanogenMod9%20814.img
Then This... This is the ADB Program ... you may or may not want it...https://dl.dropbox.com/u/87517233/CWM%20Recovery%205%20ICS.rar

Here's what you need: The USB cable that came with your Airpad or one with a longer than normal Mini USB connector.
The Air Pad of course.
A PC with XP or Vista and an available USB 2.0+ port. ( I've had problems with HuBs)
Disconnect All media devices that are USB including phones, portable media players, PDA's etc (basically anything you can connect to the ROM on)
A way to hold the Airpad with one hand and hold down the Volume Up button while plugging in the Airpad to the PC and then while still holding the Volume up button down, pressing and releasing the Power Button up to 10 times in 8 seconds. Sounds harder than it is.

Here's what to do: This works on Vista and XP. Not sure about Win7 or 8.
NOTE: Once you have these set up you will want to keep them, so I suggest you make a directory called Airpad somewhere and un rar the files there.
SHUT DOWN your Airpad before starting this...i.e. Power Off!
1. Unrar the files. If you don't have winrar you can get it here http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm.
2. Go to the Live Suite Folder. You will see 3 files that start with 1-??????
Choose the proper one for your system, Itanium, X86, or X64 and run it to install the Drivers.
3. (optional) In the Live suite Folder you will see a folder called USBDriver, open it and Right click the USBDRV.INF file and choose INSTALL.
4. Back out to the Live Suite folder and find the file called: 2 - LiveSuitPack_version_1.09_20111101.exe
and run it to install Live suite.
5. In the Live Suite Folder run:  3 - LiveSuit.exe A window should pop up after a bit saying Welcome with Yes or no buttons.
   Click Yes.
Follow the prompts till that window disappears and it's sitting there for you to connect the Airpad...
6. Unplug the power to your Airpad. Plug in the small end of the USB cable into the Airpad.
7. Hold down the Volume UP button and Plug the other end of the USB cable to your PC. Keep Holding the Volume up button down.
Quickly press and release the Power Button up to 10 times till you hear your computer's usb connection sound. Release both buttons.
8. Look at your PC and you will see live suite connect and start the Flash. There will be no indication on the Airpad that anything is going on.
The airpad will probably reboot AutoMagically. Disconnect the USB cable and press EXIT on Live Suite.
Viola! Flashed.

NOTE: During step 5, Choose Upgrade if you are upgrading, BUT if want a CLEAN system choose the Mandatory and Format options. It will zap the internal SD card but it will not touch the external one.
If upgrading try the Upgrade first!
I have noticed an issue when upgrading using 3rd party ROMs:
upgrading can leave some stuff behind. In my case it is a few of files in the root directory such as init.rc. When my Airpad boots, it always say's Android is upgrading. It's annoying, but, with over 500 Apps installed, I don't relish wiping my Tablet.

I would suggest getting Titanium Backup and doing a full back up first and synching it to Google Drive, or Box, or Drop Box before doing anything if you have non stock, non app store apps. Or, do a Nand backup to the external SD card sos you can put it back to the way it was before you screwed up!

Cheers,
BuBu

Goodness, don't do that!
The Airpad does not have Gorilla Glass. So LCD will break and leak crystal juice all over your food. Stuff doesn't taste good at all.

you won't hurt the device. either it will flash or it will not and you are just back where you started.  the only time people have trouble is when they think they can flash any other tablet's firmware onto their tablet.

Great job on the install instructions BuBu. As far as the initlogo.rle it is in the boot.img file that is used to create the whole image. If you sent the file to me I may be able to make a zip that you can install in CWM that would change it.  Heres a link to the original Airpad image https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/wallpaper_punaier01.jpg and my own XL modification https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/default_wallpaper.jpg. To get the original boot animation delete bootanimation.zip from /system/media. "limit on the number of Apps" can't help ya sorry. "Android is Upgrading" it shouldn't do that unless you actually updated the rom without wiping it IDK, and the sd card thing is normal.

Bluetooth.  I have tried so hard to do something with it, I have even broken down and download the source code but I am no programmer. According the the guy that ported CM9 and 10 if a dongle is not working now then that dongle is buggy. Mine doesn't work quite right either btw.

Stability.  CM9 and even the latest builds of CM10 run great on my tablet so I updated my mothers tablet which she bought after trying mine. It looks to be the exact same airpadxl but it is unstable. I have wiped and installed everything on both so they are identical then installed cpu benchmark and keep hitting run on both. Mine never has a problem but hers will crash about 3 out of 10 tries. Lowering cpu clock seems to help some but not completely. I think it may be heat related and am going to try to affix a small heat sink to the cpu.

JColeman;

Great job on the install instructions BuBu. THX

THX for the Links.  I'm kind of a DIY guy well versed in EBSIDC and HEX, if you catch my drift. But you can be my mentor Young Mr. J. Coleman.

"limit on the number of Apps" can't help ya sorry. I'll figure it out someday, something to keep simmering on the back burner.

"Android is Upgrading" it shouldn't do that unless you actually updated the rom without wiping it IDK. Yes did it as an Upgrade. So, what files belong in the root? I'm just going to delete them and see what happens. (Yes I have a Nand Backup)  I'm reading that the Initial Logo is part of the boot image. That makes it part of the Boot Loader. No? ... I've been interested in building a User Friendly boot loader for the airpad just for kicks. More like the Winblows 2K/XP bootloader on the front end.

Bluetooth.  I have tried so hard to do something with it, I have even broken down and download the source code but I am no programmer. According the the guy that ported CM9 and 10 if a dongle is not working now then that dongle is buggy. Mine doesn't work quite right either btw.
I have and old TrendNet BT USB dongle. It works great. It's connecting with my Plantronics Stereo with MIC Headset, my old Razar phone, BT network (Toshiba BT SD card in PC), and my BT printer (using in-house software I can't reveal just yet). This on your latest build. I'm thinking the problem you are having is in the BT stack.

I did that with mine and it seems to help, but I did notice the other Hot Spot I assume where the memory is could use one too.

Cheers,
Tim aka BuBu

I installed the latest cm10 20120909 and it seems to be running good.. only issues so far is netflix doesn't work anymore, and battery seems to charge at a much slower rate, although it does not run down as fast as it did on cm9 and does not get as hot as with cm9, not having lockups as i did in cm9 either. a new rom came out today 20120913 but have not installed it yet. if/when i do i will post results.

All..I apprciate all the hard work.   Again all's I can say is bt and the os is very stable with the old 0331 bt image.... but the  bt has no audio.   I also notice 0331 has fewer Google apps running in the os background.  Thanks and keep up the good work.

Can we post some of the perfomance and other settings people are using under cm9?

I installed the 0331 Image applied the 3 zip update files and now it just hangs on the boot screen with that Japanese looking Robot animation.

I let it go for 10 minutes before holding the power button down till it forced it to turn off.

The 0331 image doesn't have the japanese dude on it - not the one I like go back further to page one of this post - that is the 0331 I like - - no zip files - -

Think the difference MAY be teh amount of crap cm9 loads.  When I kill all background apps it seems to run ok...

What is the difference between
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/CM008-0331-BT-CWR.img
and
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/CM008-AirpadXL-Momo15.ICS.Bluetooth%200617.img
?

also why can't I just install

Christian Troys CyanogenMod build cm9_nightly_20120721

as a image file using livesuite,
why was there not a link to the image file for this mod provided?
Why do the Google Apps have to be added via  separate zip file, why not just include all these apps in the image file Without first installing one of the above images? Why could I have not just booted in recovery mode and installed the Christian Troys CyanogenMod build cm9_nightly_20120721?

CM008-0331-BT-CWR.img is based on the 01F2-P1-H1-M01-1883.20120331.img image released by ployer
CM008-AirpadXL-Momo15.ICS.Bluetooth%200617.img is based on CM008-4.0-01F2-H1-H1-M01-2052.20120514.img. Both are attempts to add bluetooth and neither work very well.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/AirpadXL%20CyanogenMod9%20814.img is a livesuit image based on christian troys cyanogenmod9.

Links and descriptions to all of these files have been provided on this forum.

Google apps are not included for the same reason they did not come on the XL, they are not open source so Google and the rom creators do not want them to.

There is one majorly serious problem with Christian Troys Cyanogen Mod, it does Not automatically shutdown the tablet when the battery gets too low and will just allow it to cut off abruptly when the battery totally discharges and that can cause damage to the system files possibly making the tablet unable to boot. :'(
Title: Re: AirpadXL latest CyanogenMod with install instructions.
Post by: daldude on September 18, 2012, 03:11:22 PM
I did not work on my AirpadXL it just hangs on the boot screen I installed the 0331 350mb partition image and then booted in recover mode and then did a wipe data/factory reset then applied the ZIP files in the order you listed are you sure it's not wipe cache partition? That's what it says on Christian Troys wbpage.

Update, it has something to do with the Compatibility zip AirpadXL branded compatibility file because if I install the Compatibility zip generic file it boots just fine but does not have Google locatio services unless you have a GPS Dongle plus AccuWeather Quick is not compatible with my tablet, I get the message from Google Play "This version of this program is not compatible with your device" while it worked fine with the X10 ICS and the MOD 9 ICS, maybe it's because Accu Weather Quick is not compatible qith Jellybean since it is not offically out yet or is so brand new they have not updated it to run in Jellybean yet.
It is listed as a Asus Nexus 7 in About Tablet and on Google Play.

Bluetooth Audio seems to work so far I'm playing a video and the audio is playing through my Bluetooth  Insignia NS-BT 400 Speakers but the audio sync is off it has about a one second delay. Audio files play fine and will even switch to the Bluetooth Speakers on the play as soon as it connects to the Bluetooth Speakers without having to exit the audio program and restart it.

Also I keep getting messages of many different services and apps crashing like Google Account Manager Google Play Google Search.

MOD10 has some cool features but the program compatibility issue is a problem making it not worth keeping installed. Too bad there is not such thing as duel boot on the AirpadXL.

* Select "wipe data/factory reset"

I had not tried AirpadXL_JB_compatibility_1.2.0.zip on the newer versions of cm10. It probably dosen't work because I modified an older build of trebuchet to include the airpadxl wallpaper. I use Momo15_JB_compatibility_1.2.0.zip myself so I hadn't noticed, sorry.
I don't know about the location services.
The rom reporting itself as a nexus 7 is a new feature of the 2012-09-13 build, I don't know if I like it yet either. I would guess that it has something to do with your accuweather problem. Maybe try an older build?

As I said earlier I have one xl that has a lot of app crashes and force closes and another one that never does it. I have yet to find a difference. I have tried underclocking the cpu and memory and neither helps much.

I mean just use livesuit and this image https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/CM008-0331-BT-CWR.img

Don't do anything else - just use the pad.

I did find out that my BT dongle is going south - I had tested it on my computer and it worked - then when I tried it with the airpad it was iffy.  Turns out now it's iffy on the computers as well.  So I got a generic poc from ebay. So Now - I ordered trentmicro bt dongle because others here said they had good luck with a trent.  We shall see after I get it if BT gets better.   Not sure I have any great desire to put CM9 back on my pad.  Performance for me seems better without it.

I am very satisfied with the above image - seems rock solid.

sorry for asking guys,
I found the ad hoc fix myself on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760929

I should have read the change log. This would have saved me lots of work, at least several hours, cause:
- arend de boer's ad hoc enabler didn't work
- adb shell mode access to wpa_supplicant didn't work (no su access)
- through wpa_cli manual adding of ad hoc SSID didn't work either
- zt 180 ad hoc fix through the market didn't work.

so I was at my wit's end until I read the changelog (cough)

if not would it be possible to rename the Model from 1C10 to Airpad XL CM9 in this image?

The Bluetooth Audio does not work, after I successfully connect to my BT Dongle  System sounds  and Music still play through the internal speaker but it thinks it's playing through the BT Audio device because play through audio device is check marked and the light on my dongle flickers like it's connected and sending audio to the BT Dongle. Other then that the Bluetooth support seems to work great, it even will re connect to the dongle if I un plug it and plug it back in.

I installed this MODE 9 image CM008-AirpadXL-Momo15.ICS.Bluetooth 0617.img and the Bluetooth Audio works for music and other app's audio but one wierd thing is alert sounds play through both the internal speaker and my Bluetooth stereo speaker.

I have no idea what brand my dongle is because it came with a program for one of my old cell phones and only worked in XP with that program (but worked in Ubuntu Linux just fine)so it's some cheap unknown brand.

Did you get Bluetooth Audio working on your XL?

What is the brand and model number of the dongle you have that works?

I googled trent bluetooth and it came up with one on called "TRENDnet" Bluetooth USB Adapter TBW-101UB (Blue) for $14 used and new for $126(What a rip off!).

What I don't like about the Mode 9 is that it makes the battery run down quickly it's already down to 86 percent and has only been on battery for 38 minutes unless it's because the Bluetooth Dongle is causing it to consume way more battery power then without it being attached and streaming audio.

The Mode 9 is more responsive then Mode 10 but still seems to have a bit of a lag compared to the 0331 image.

If someone would edit the Mode9 image and remove all the extra junk apps like Dev Tools, News & Weather, Update Me, Talk,  ES file explorer Apollo audio player and the People app it would probably run faster.

Waiting BT dongle from B&H =$14.  New.   They are also all over Ebay.  Freaking B&H sent it UPS which will not deliver a day earlier than scheduled.  I hate UPS.   Couldn't test my Audio Yet.

Will post when I find out - but minus the bluetooth - I like the 0331 BT image much better - I need the device renamed to the same name as CM9 Image Airpad XL - So I can download Daily Ink app.  Other than that I love it.

Android updater (update me) on CM9 comes up with a new CM nightly Rom 20120913 (I believe is the number) -
I installed the zip - and then had to install the Airpad XL compatiblity zip from page one here - -

Any word on this ????????

Jcoleman - feel like making another img file?
Looks like better bluetooth -
Name no longer comes up as airpad XL

2012-09-13
*** This will be the latest release. Rom development is now discontinued since I moved to other SoCs ***
* Full spoof as SGS2 (GT-I9100) for better GameLoft / EA compatibility
* Fixed FC on license check of some games (specially gameloft one)
* Bluetooth dongle now supports hotplug
* Cyanogenmod's option to hide status bar now will permanently hide it (not only if the app requests the FULLSCREEN flag). You can enable/disable this option using the included ToggleBar app or checking/unchecking the option from "combined bar"'s settings.
* Added WiFi wakelock (change WiFi sleep policy to "Never" or the tablet won't sleep)
* Updated upstream sources

Ok - here is a "24" hours later report on the latest CM9 release 20120913 - -

Superior Bluetooth performance!  Works perfectly!

I also switched to a new dongle - TrendNet TBW107UB
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/816822-REG/Trendnet_TBW_107UB_TBW_107UB_Micro_Bluetooth_USB.html

It worked ok under the previous CM9 release - but now it works GREAT with this new 201200913 release!

As far as the rest of the UPDATE-

Better System performance - to me it seems much better than the last release.

I can't realy complain about this release. (so far)

the process I followed was this
I had Jcolemans CM9 Image file loaded through Livesuite - -
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/AirpadXL%20CyanogenMod9%20814.img is a livesuit image based on christian troys cyanogenmod9.

THEN:

Downloaded the new zip file to my SD card
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/33373-rom-cm9-nightlies/cm9_nightly_20120913.zip
(click on 2012-09-12)

Then downloaded the google and Airpad fix files from Jcoleman
Download the Google Apps http://allwinner-cm9.googlecode.com/files/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip or from here if you want the Facelock app http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
Download my airpad xl compatibility file https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85954963/AirpadXL_compatibility_1.2.0.zip

I did the reboot holding Power and Vol- until I got the Android Zip install untility

and installed the zips one at a time.

NOTE: the RAW 2012-09-13 zip doesn't operate corretly until you hit "reset" on teh back of the android - then hold power and vol- to install the airpadXL fix zip -
then repeat and do it again for teh google apps fix.

When you are done it seems to run great!

Hint:  I would be really nice if someone was kind enough to put this new version in an IMG file format along with fixes and name the device Airpad XL.

thanks
Jim

Finally got around to upgrading my XL with BuBu's instructions - thanks to all who put this together. Only a few things don't work as before (Comics by Arcamax and Netflix) but nothing major for me. I love having USB gamepad support now.

Anyway to move the combined bar to the top of the page? Mine's at the bottom and I don't see how to move it - though the theme changer's snapshot shows it at the top.

Again, thanks to everyone who has helped/prodded/cursed this whole process ;-)

Net Flix is working on my XL. I can't remember what I did to JColeman's first 0331 build to get it working and UPGRADED to the version in my instructions. I don't know about Comics though

Have an Issue....I would swear I found the answer here, but now I can't find it.
The other day I found that some folks had camera problems where the camera app worked just fine, but other apps could not detect it. There was a Samsung driver posted that corrected the problem.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Net Flix is working on my XL. I can't remember what I did to JColeman's first 0331 build to get it working and UPGRADED to the version in my instructions. I don't know about Comics though

Solved the Comics problem by finding another app - Comics Reader; better app in lots of ways. Now if I could get Netflix to work

Has anyone else noticed that this mod runs the battery down much faster then the 0331 image? I had the earlier version of this and it had very short battery life and this latest version has the same problem. My battery is at 80% and has only been running for 51 minutes with the bluetooth audio playing audio and even without the bluetooth being enabled the previous version seemed to run the battery down fast.

Yup, 0331 is much faster, but has it's own issues. Although much more stable, it doesn't like App Hogs like myself.
Bluetooth is a POWER HOG. PERIOD. People with BT Keyboards, mice, etc, no matter the tablet all say the same thing. Turn on BT and watch your battery quickly dying.
So I don't think it's your build or hardware.

BTW, My old Moto Razar Cell Phone...2 Hr yabber time with Blue tooth Headset. 10 Hour yabber time with wired headset.
Even with my souped up case and batteries for Airpad, I can watch them draining when I have BT turned on. The more devices that are BT attached the faster the drain!

Cheers,
BuBu

That's good list that I used in the past.  I picked visual land for $70 from newegg... wally world has it for under $89 (comes with case, easy 90 day return policy, 1 year warranty)    512K memory, single core is very annoying with ICS 4.0 for intense apps like browser/realtor/pulse etc.  Okay for angry birds or dedicated alarm console panel.  Time to move on and dump it on ebay I guess.

I tried this and it works! I'm running CM9. It still stops and buffers but that may be my network here. Previously it would just go back to the Home screen so this is MUCH better!

Okay, I'm obviously missing something. Running CM9 and trying to get CWM on my tablet. I follow the instructions included in the package but it doesn't seem to load and never reboots into recovery mode. What am I missing?

ended up using the UpdateMe app to install CWM and now it reboots into recovery mode. One question: how long does the backup take? It's gotten so far and then just stops after nearly an hour.

One other thing regarding the combined bar - I'm running CM9 and it doesn't seem to hide when an app requests full screen.

Where are you backing up to? Are you running out of space? You should only back up to the EXTSD. If you've tries several times you may have to do some deleting of files. NAND back ups create several files. Some might be complete without the whole process complete and you might have to delete them. A general rule of thumb is to have twice the storage available as what you are backing up.

But even when I had Bluetooth totally turned off it still ran the battery down faster then 0331 and still has the auto shutdown issue where it won't shutdown the tablet when the battery gets below 5 percent or even 2 percent charge left and will just abruptly cut off when the battery totally discharges or gets to a voltage level to low to power the tablet.

I went back to 0331 and the battery performance is much better even with Bluetooth on and transferring files via Bluetooth.

Use the Llama app over here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kebab.Llama&hl=en (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kebab.Llama&hl=en) to shutdown your tablet when it reaches a low battery condition.

The only thing you DO NOT NEED to DL is the CynogenMod rom... (the second DL)
DL everything else unless you already have it.
