Should the Chat room be brought back online full time?
« on: November 13, 2006, 06:19:56 PM »

Simple enough! ::) ;) :D
x10 installed this originally for special chats like the one with Dave Rye!
More special guest chats were promised but nothing has materialized! ::) :'(
As of now one can't even use it although it is visible to all! :'( :(
[li]Would this be beneficial to have for all users to use full time? ???[/li]

[li]Would newbies feel more like the
"Cheers Gang" having the opportunity for a one on one in real time? ???[/li]

[li]Would it become a venue for X10 bashing and only use as that? ???[/li]

    [li]Would You use it? ???[/li]
    [/b]
    [/list]
    *Please comment*

I personally think this a great Idea!
I had always gone into it but never realized it wasn't working until lately as I started to get errors when I entered! :'(

I feel the benefits to having this up fulltime out weigh the cons
    But thats only my thoughts!
I'd like to hear your Thoughts ??? as I'm sure so would the X10 Brass! ;) :D ;D
-*And they do read these threads!*-

I would like to see it working. It would be a fun place to hang out where everyone could get to know each other a little better. Maybe it would help others open up more and make them feel like they fit in.

What if it causes more people to realize they don't fit in? :) (just kidding)

I would like to see a chat function here.  I think it could head off a LOT of "quick questions" that I see pop up as messages that takes seconds to answer, but the waits are great sometimes.

I see a Chat Room as really good method to relieve Message Board a little of the thousands of messages you have to wade through sometimes when doing searches for issues with extremely common X10 products.  It could leave the message system more available for detail oriented question/response.

I can see this as very functional in those situations where someone doesn't provide near enough or critical information about an issue.

I don't know if I shouldn't comment on this (because I wished for it)... or if it would be wrong if I didn't. But I think the chat room would be a nice place to visit, meet other X10 fans, and be helpful and reassuring for the newbies (or guests).

Dave_x10_L:  I was hoping you would comment since you spured me to start this poll!
I have so many people that just e-mail me with questions because the responce time is quicker well the chat room would be even faster!
The longer it take one to resolve an issue the more irrate they become!
I'm sure the chat room would be full of "please help me!"
But X10s tech support Can't Help as quickly as the Community can ! ;) :D
Hey And using the Community won't cost them a cent! ;) :D
Vote numbers look good but Comments look even better! ;) :D ;D

Not only is the responce time quick.... but so MUCH info is already on the forum...many users are already overwhelmed. It would be nicer to reassure people that are slightly over their heads. And provide useable links (to the forum) for people with real problems.

I hate to actually say (well...type) this but so many people really hate to read. Sure they will read a line or two... chat rooms are ok. But many people get totally turned off with a page full page of fine print directions.

Plus .... chat rooms forget. If someone misspells words in a chat room.... or asks a less than cleaver question, tomorrow it's gone. Same way with a rant, it hangs for a few seconds or minutes, then it's gone.

I have to agree with you on this point Dave_x10_L...
To adapt an old saying to this line of thought... "Sometimes you just want to know what time it is, not how to build a watch."
However... there are some things about X10 that simply aren't "simple" answers... and I have seldom met an angry person that could hear or would listen to anything beyond a simple answer.

I would like to see the chat room work.

"Chatting" back and forth with PM's is slow (at best) and sometimes it would be nice (especially for those of us who live  :-[ on this forum) to be able to just BS a little without it becoming a permanent record (ie: the Monty Python Spam skit  ;D :-[ ).

It would also be much more efficient when trying to answer someone who is online at the same time you are!

I think the Chat room would be great.  I have seen people working on things and replying minutes later.  How neat it would be for them to be able to debug in real time while talking (Typing) about it.

Sure would enable simpler questions to be responded to much faster.

Honestly, I had no idea there ever was a chat area.

I agree with all about the chat room.

Maybe if it was running, I could have vented there and not Quit for a DAY  ::)

Or we could have all vented and complained and praised..... and helped some newbies....and just had fun.

OK. A CHAT ROOM has been available since 11/17/06 - in fact, TTA's "Community" Chat Room offers *MUCH MORE* than SMF's CHAT could ever imagine:

    • Text
    • Voice
    • Webcam
    [/b]
But, has EVERYONE who voiced a POSITIVE post in *THIS* thread JOINED?

According to STOP Watching Paint Dry / Grass Grow & JOIN TTA's "Community" Chat Today!  (Read 272 times), it doesn't appear so. ???

How is this CHAT ROOM 'concept' actually working out?

    • Have any NEWBIEs benefited from it yet?
    • How many "Oldtimers " have VOLUNTEERED?
    • Has anyone had a problem getting it to work for them?

*ALL* feedback, both POSITIVE and NEGATIVE, is certainly appreciated. :)
